It all started when...
South Hills Nursery opened in 1993 in the secluded countryside, opened in converted farm buildings on the back of the Wilton estate. The first nursery to open under the South Hills name was unique in forward thinking of a holistic approach joined with Montessori. This attitude was led by the founder Alicia to combine fantastic care and first class education with the love of outdoors.
The unique feature of our setting is the school farm housing the many animals we have for the children’s education and enjoyment. The children are encouraged to care for the animals and in doing so learn responsibility, while gaining a caring attitude towards nature. The children have built their own natural life pond and wildlife area which is a great facility to aid their learning about the environment as they grow.
We have a sensory garden for the children and a separate Baby Unit with their own enclosed safe play area.
In 2009 we opened a further two nurseries, a small rural setting in the village of Hindon and the other in Salisbury. This nursery is attached to a Children’s Centre and we work in partnership with their staff to provide a sure start for the children and families in the locality. Our fourth nursery, South Hills Burcombe, on the site of Wilton and Barford Primary, joined the family group in the summer of 2012.
In the autumn of 2013 we were delighted to be able to establish a further nursery right in the heart of the city of Salisbury, South Hills City Nursery.
In 2015 we moved north of the county opening a nursery situated in the lovely picturesque town of Corsham. Like our Salisbury Nursery it too works in partnership with the local Children's Centre & is on the site of Corsham Regis Academy School.
In 2017 we opened Semley in a rural village setting . We have been overwhelmed by the warm welcome we have received from the village and from the school. We look forward to working with our team to help grow and establish another Outstanding nursery setting.
In September 2018 we opened our first purpose built, brand new setting attached to the St Peter’s CE Primary Academy. The environment is incredible and the nursery is growing quickly as is the breakfast and afterschool club we provide for children of the primary school. We have a wonderful relationship with the Academy and look forward to watching them grow year after year.
2018 ended on a high as we took the Nursery Group of the year prize and the NMT Awards. This award was a testament to all the amazing work our teams are doing across the county. We are very proud of them all and this was the recognition they all deserve.
Our newest addition to the group is the Old School Nursery in Great Cheverell, Devizes. We are excited to build on what was already an outstanding nursery in an idyllic village setting. We have been welcomed by all the team and families and could not be happier with the start of our latest journey.
South Hills is a family run group of nurseries enabling us to respond personally to all our families.
