The Dairy Class

"Children in the Dairy Class are wholly engrossed in their play and are given superb support from knowledgeable staff." (quote from OFSTED report)

The Dairy Class provides more structure than the Pre Class but the emphasis is still on fun.  Children learn through play and begin to develop their independence and self-help skills.

The Dairy Class is split into two age group classes:  Dairy 1 (3 - 3½ years) and Dairy 2 (2½ - 3 years).  For those children aged 2 the staff ratio is 1:4 and for 3 year olds it is 1:8.  The Dairy is a vibrant, stimulating part of the school and also has a purpose-built outdoor play area with excellent safety surface and lots of fun vehicles and toys designed for the age group.  There is also direct access into the Sensory Garden.

Within the Dairy classes there is a wide range of resources available, which are updated regularly throughout the year to reflect the changing interests of the children.  Provided within the classrooms daily -

  • A role-play area where dressing up and imaginative play is encouraged
  • Small World Toys
  • Messy play including sand, water, play dough, shaving foam, gloop, flour and water
  • Creative Area: with paints and other creative materials
  • Book corner with many picture and story books
  • Computer connected to the Internet.
  • Carpeted area where stories, singing and circle time takes place
  • Construction play area with cars, trains, building blocks and lego
  • Various media to encourage mark making, painting and craft projects.
  • Animal feeding and exploring the Sensory Garden as well as the local woodland.
