Who are we and what do we do?

"South Hills Home School Association has been established to enable parents and carers to become involved in both the social and educational life of the school.”  - A wide enough brief, which gives us scope to do many things.  Over the last year the HSA has been responsible for:

  • Organising events such as the summer BBQ, the overnight “Tentathon” and the Christmas Fair
  • Raising funds to provide equipment for the school
  • Running activities for the children such as the summer Disco for the Barn and pre-prep children

It is commonly heard from parents that one of the things they love about the school is the environment and the school community.  It is these two elements that allow the school to have activities such as the BBQ and the camping.  The facilities the school offers and the willingness of parents to actively participate in supporting such ventures does provide a clear distinction above other schools in the area.  Similarly, there was a lot of positive feedback regarding the 2008 Christmas Fair stating that there was a great atmosphere and the stalls went beyond the normal bric-a-brac seen at many festive fairs.  All very positive stuff but these events do not happen by themselves and it has been the efforts of the HSA to pull these things together for the enjoyment and benefit of all.

The Christmas Fair is also one of the major fund raising activities of the year.  In 2008/2009 our aim was to fund two purchases – a TV to be placed in the entrance to Barn/Pre-Prep where recorded video and still photos would allow parents to see what the kids get up to all day.  The second was an interactive whiteboard which could be enjoyed by all children.  We are delighted to say that enough funds were raised to purchase both.  The TV has been bought already and a supplier is being sourced for the whiteboard.
